Liberal activists vs liberal activists, reloaded

MizzouThe other day, we touched on the subject of how a liberal is supposed to act when one of the left’s favored classes (LGBT community is attacked by another favored class (Muslims).

Today we have the answer: Double Down.

Via Hotair.com’s Jazz Shaw:

A vigil Monday planned by several University of Missouri student organizations was supposed to honor victims of Sunday morning’s deadly shooting rampage in a popular gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla.

It turned into a blame session against Mizzou’s LGBTQ community for not being intersectional enough.

At the University of Missouri, a group of students staged a vigil in memory of the victims, standing in solidarity with the gay and lesbian civilians who were murdered by the now infamous ISIS supporter. Their planned memorial hit a sour note, however, when another student showed up to decry the service because it wasn’t focused on the correct demographic group. (The College Fix)

Jazz posed the same question that entered my mind: “Do you suppose that there’s any room left in our collective consciousness to realize that we are at war and facing an enemy whose brutality and utter lack of any semblance of humanity knows no bounds? We’re turning the worst radical Islamist terror attack on our home soil since 9-11 into a social justice debate. This is a 21st century version of Nero fiddling while Rome goes up in flames.”

My answer is “no.” Not if you’re a progressive special snowflake with a purpose. The leader of the disruptive petulance doesn’t care that most of the victims of the Orlando slaughter were Latinos like herself. All she cares about is why all of these white, gay vigil-goers weren’t out marching the streets, smashing storefronts and shutting down events for Ol’ Teddy Bear, Michael Brown.

In fact, the entire left side of the political spectrum is trying to turn an apolitical, ideological rampage into a ppolitical impetus to pass restrictive new gun laws. None of that would have done nothing to stop any mass murdering whacko from murdering en masse, but they don’t care. All of their proposals would necessarily infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens without due process.

First they deprive you of the right to arm yourself, then they deprive you of the right to speak out, and then they start depriving you of mobility.

Fortunately however, this little bruhaha at Mizzou shows that they don’t yet have their shit together. Can we pray that they never do, while we also laugh at the little snowflakes going at each others’ throats? In the wake of that tragedy; with the current administration showing no signs of addressing the real problem of growing radical islam violence, laughter may be all we have left until the real shooting war starts.

What’s a liberal to do after Orlando massacre?

Serious question: What’s a liberal to do when a member of a protected group attacks and kills scores of members of another protected, persecuted and much maligned group?

On Saturday, the radical islamic jihadi Omar Mateen pledged his allegiance to ISIS. He then took his brand new arsenal of high powered weapons into a crowded LGBT bar and shot the place up. In his wake were 50 dead—including himself.

In liberals’ warped idea of the utopian universe, this wasn’t supposed to happen.

There are two immutable truths at work here, neither of which a liberal can or even wants to comprehend: First, radical islam hates homosexuality and second, the LGBT movement loves celebrating and showing off their homosexuality.

It doesn’t take a Nobel peace prize winner to figure out what’s gonna happen sooner or later. But God love’em, the left never saw Orlando coming.

The whole progressive culture machine is at a loss. They can’t admit that an allegedly persecuted group hates another allegedly persecuted group so much that Group A will faithfully murder Group B. Doing so would be admitting that they were wrong, and liberals never admit they were wrong.

So what’s the progressive culture machine left to do?

At LEAST Fifty dead, dozens more wounded in Orlando terrorist attack; Muslim leader blames ‘mass shootings.’

There are at least fifty people dead as a result of a radicalized Muslim who, according to authorities, carefully planned and came prepared to kill in the name of his God.

At about 2:00 am local time, Omar Mateen, 29, walked into the Pulse club in Orlando, opened fire and killed at least fifty innocent Americans. He left dozens others wounded, many in critical condition.

Fox News has the story:

The gunman was identified as Omar Mateen, Rep. Alan Grayson said during a Sunday morning press conference. Mateen was a U.S. citizen, Grayson said, though that was "not true of other family members of his." Mateen, 29, lived in Fort Pierce, Fla. He was born in the U.S. to parents of Afghan origin and was a Muslim, Fox News confirmed.

Authorities were going through Mateen's belongings on Sunday morning trying to identify a motive for the attack, Grayson said.

"More likely than not that it was an ideologically motivated attack," Grayson said, though he said it was unclear if Mateen was linked to any terror groups.

The mainstream media won’t go there, but I damned sure will: as the Fort Hood and San Bernardino massacres showed us, a whacked out jihadi like Omar doesn’t need funding or direction from ISIS or Al Qaeda to wreak havoc on innocent American citizens. All he needs is the insanity of radical Islam and an Imam willing to brush off the mayhem by shifting blame:

Imam Muhammad Musri said police have determined there has been no connection to anyone else. No, police have not said that, they said they are still investigating. Now he’s saying we have to look to issue of mass shootings, ‘we must do something to stop the mass shootings that are happening all the time’. On the other hand, he said people should not ‘jump to conclusions’ as to blame, that we must ‘come together.’

No sir, Imam. What we need to stop are people teaching radical interpretations of the Quran while shifting blame to a non-existent trend in mass shootings.

The current administration wants to import thousands of undocumented refugees from radicalized Muslim countries into the U.S. GOP nominee Donald Trump was widely criticized for calling for a halt in resettlement of these refugees until we can better determine where they’re from and what they’re up to. Given that (1), the likelihood of our government developing a vetting system that works is negligible and (2), we have San Bernardino, Fort Hood and now Orlando as evidence of what they’re gonna be up to if they’ve found ‘religion’, it sounds like Mr. Trump has the right plan and Democrats have the wrong one. (but I repeat myself there, don’t I?)

Exit question: If you were a betting man or woman, what odds would you lay that the club attacked last night was a supposed ‘Gun Free Zone?’ Or, phrased another way, if you were a radical jihadi bent on killing dozens of infidels, where would you choose to open fire? A place where you know people can’t shoot back.

Obama and Panetta having a very public hissy fit at each other

In the days following the successful raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound that killed the terrorist leader, CIA Director Leon Panetta made the TV news channel rounds. He told the talking heads and their audiences that the administration had graphic, gruesome photographs of bin Laden’s corpse and that he was fairly certain the imagery would be released to prove he’d been killed.

"I just think it's important, they know we have it, to release it," Panetta said.

Nope, said President Obama in an interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes. The man who couldn’t roll a bowling ball down the frickin Interstate or throw a baseball in the Pacific Ocean used a sports analogy in punking the Chief Spook. “We don’t trot this stuff out as trophies,” he said. “We don’t need to spike the football.”

Oh, dear.

image Panetta doesn’t seem to be taking this sitting down, though. Perhaps you remember this famous photograph, purporting to show Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Hilary Clinton and Pentagon Brass watching a supposedly live video feed of the raid itself.

Yesterday, in an interview with PBS, Panetta told the network that there was no live video feed of the raid, after all.

“Once those teams went into the compound I can tell you that there was a time period of almost 20 or 25 minutes where we really didn’t know just exactly what was going on. And there were some very tense moments as we were waiting for information.

“We had some observation of the approach there, but we did not have direct flow of information as to the actual conduct of the operation itself as they were going through the compound.” What, exactly, were Obama & Company watching in the photo above?

The more important question though is this: Why is Leon Panetta intentionally trying to embarrass the President of the United States?

The public disagreement over the release of photographs of the dead terrorist isn’t the first. In fact, Panetta has also copped to believing that “enhanced interrogation techniques” (that’s waterboarding) led intelligence services to information they used to locate bin Laden’s compound. If Senator Obama had gotten his way, President Obama would never have gotten the information he used to collect his trophy kill.

Extra Point: Still want that Pentagon post, Mr. CIA Director?

GREAT NEWS: Bin Laden’s burial at sea wasn’t cool with Islamic law after all

The Associated Press has a report that says tossing Osama bin Laden’s body into the cold, dark oceans—where he could sleep with the fishes and help feed baby crabs—wasn’t halal after all.

I don’t care and share the NY Daily News’ sentiment:

image

Although there appears to be some room for debate over the burial — as with many issues within the faith — a wide range of Islamic scholars interpreted it as a humiliating disregard for the standard Muslim practice of placing the body in a grave with the head pointed toward the holy city of Mecca.

Sea burials can be allowed, they said, but only in special cases where the death occurred aboard a ship.

"The Americans want to humiliate Muslims through this burial, and I don't think this is in the interest of the U.S. administration," said Omar Bakri Mohammed, a radical cleric in Lebanon.

A U.S. official said that the burial decision was made after concluding that it would have been difficult to find a country willing to accept the remains. There also was speculation about worry that a grave site could have become a rallying point for militants.

Patterico says he doesn’t give a rats ass (NSFW language at the link) what they did with the body, in accordance with Islamic law or what. But he thinks it was a mistake to dump it so hastily, as it’s only going to give the birthers, truthers and black helicopterists more fuel for their wacko conspiracy theories.

I agree that flying over the Indian Ocean and shoving the corpse out the door is a great way to play fast and loose with the strict Muslim code and prevent a landside gravesite from becoming a frickin shrine.

I also agree with Patterico that at least a few photographs—ala Abu Graibe—showing soldiers yucking it up with the corpse would make for better rumor quashing.

I disagree with the notion that the unceremonious nature of the final disposal will enrage the fundamentalists and make them hate us even more. They already hate us, already wanted to kill us and have died trying.

Failing to dig a hole and point his bloodied, shattered skull at Mecca won’t change that.

Domodedovo Airport bomb blast reminds us that Russia has an islamist problem, too (UPDATE: Video added)

image

Updated to add links and video.

An explosion has ripped through Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport—the busiest such facility in Russia. While the AP is cautiously suggesting that it was caused by a suicide bomber, it reminds us that Russia has an islamicist problem, too.

The country has been fighting islamic separatists in the Caucasus region of Chechnya, and while there have been few incidents of late, the separatists have perpetrated some horrific and bloody attacks in the past.

Ed Morrissey at HotAir.com notes from the AP story that In 2004, suicide bombers boarded airplanes at Domodedovo by bribing airport personnel. The bombers blew themselves up in mid-air, killing all 90 people aboard the two flights.

But a few weeks after that event, 32 heavily armed islamic militants guerrillas seized a school in Beslan near the border with Chechnya, and held more than 1,000 children, teachers and parents hostage.  That incident left 335 hostages dead—including 186 children—and  hundreds more wounded.

Islamicists don’t care who they kill. If they’ll mow down innocent children in a hail of gunfire and incendiary bombs, what’s a few dozen busy travelers at Moscow’s busiest airport?

Look, we know who these people are. We know their ethnicity. We know their religious affiliation. We know their genders and approximate age ranges. We also know that they intend to kill us and they are more than willing to be blown to bits themselves in the name of Allah!

How many more people need to die before the west realizes that these people need to be profiled, isolated and scrutinized before being even allowed within spitting distance of large congregations of the public?

Americans, Britons, Spaniards, Frenchmen and Russians need to wake up. We are at war with religious fanatics and their “soldiers” are among us.

Update: Video from the scene, moments after the blast. Warning: Some graphic images may be visible.

Great News from the Left Coast: A new drug tunnel and another jihadi plot

image Authorities in San Diego (finally) discovered a sophisticated and well equipped tunnel system beneath the US and Mexico border.  They said the underground system ran for nearly a half mile, and included such amenities as a rail system, ventilation systems and fluorescent lighting. Oh, and… they also discovered about 40 tons of marijuana.

Meanwhile, about 1,000 miles to the north, authorities there were taking a Somali-born, nationalized US citizen into custody for allegedly attempting to set off a van stuffed with explosives using a cell phone detonator.

But, closing the border and enforcing US drug and human trafficking laws, as well as protecting citizens from random, soft-target attacks… that’s no big deal. Because these are “isolated incidents” and the public was never really in danger.

Chief Michael Reese stated, “This threat was very real but at no point was the public ever in danger. The cooperation of various law enforcement agencies was critical in making this case. I appreciate the partnership we have with the FBI and I’m very proud of the Portland Police Bureau’s role in this investigation. The Portland Police Bureau works to maintain the highest level of safety for our community and this case stands as an example of our commitment to the people we serve.”
Mayor Sam Adams said, “A smart federal, state and local law enforcement investigation caught a criminal tonight bent on mass destruction and murder in our city.” “The bomb was a fake but evidence shows the criminal who tried to detonate it was real. My deepest thanks to the local teams at the United States Department of Justice, FBI, Portland Police Bureau, and other local agencies who were instrumental in protecting our community.”

We know who the terrorists are.  We know their ethnicity, their religious affiliation, their gender, age and we know what their aims are. We know who the drug cartels are. We know their ethnicity, their gender, age and what their aims are.

But God forbid we profile them. It might be a violation of their civil rights.

Meanwhile, we’re stuck having to wonder whether we’re safe at a Christmas Tree Lighting.

How long is it before the terrorists and the drug cartels realize that their goals are not at all dissimilar, and start working together?

Authorities investigating “suspicious packages” aboard multiple aircraft. Dirty Bombs? UPDATED

Obviously a developing story.

image Authorities are investigating a suspicious package found on a UPS plane that arrived at Philadelphia International Airport Friday.

A crew member arriving on a UPS flight from Paris notified authorities of a suspicious package on board describing a potential radiological component, a local CBS affiliate reported.

Philadelphia police and firefighters greeted the inbound flight shortly after 9 a.m. and the two occupants exited the aircraft, the station reported.

Potential radiological component?

This has all the markings of an Al Qaeda plot to blow up aircraft over major US cities, using radiological material.  Aka, Dirty Bomb.

Fox News is also reporting that the packages are said to have originated in Yemen. That’s where this worthless piece of human scum lives.

image

Updates as they become available.

UPDATE 11:15 CDT: Fox is now reporting that there are no radiological components found.

UPDATE 11:50 CDT: Associated Press and Fox News are both reporting that the planes were halted and searched after receiving tips from an “overseas ally.”  Fox News continues to suggest that this “could be” a terrorist dry run.

I don’t think so.  Terrorists don’t do dry runs.  If they see a weakness they can exploit, they exploit it. Calling it a dry run is like saying a sniper shoots blanks to see if he can fire on his target without detection…

UPDATE 14:00 CDT: Fox News Channel now reporting that a civilian, commercial passenger airliner is being escorted to JFK Airport.

UPDATE 14:30 CDT: Aircraft now on the ground. @Foxnews twitter account says “United Arab Emirates official tells AP that package found in air cargo shipment in Dubai from Yemen contained 'explosive device'.”

FBI releases video of the Times Square Bomb attempt

The FBI has released a video showing a simulation of the Times Square Bombing attempt by Faisal Shahzad (who pled guilty and will be sentenced next week).  The effects of such a bomb—had it been assembled and detonated correctly—would have been devastating.

In his statements to investigators following the May 1 attack, Shahzad said he believed his device would have killed about 40 people.

Judging from the video released today by the FBI, which is urging that the Federal Court sentence him to the maximum of life in prison, 40 people may have been the low side of the estimate.

Watch the whole thing.  This video belongs right next to the word “scary” in Webster’s Dictionary.

ABC News: Credible but “not specific” threat of Mumbai-style terrorist attack

ABC News is reporting that US and European authorities have uncovered a plot to carry out “Mumbai-style” commando terrorist attacks against soft targets in Europe and North America.

A senior US official said that while there is a "credible" threat, no specific time or place is known. President Obama has been briefed about the threat, say senior US officials.

Intelligence and law enforcement authorities in the US and Europe said the threat information is based on the interrogation of a suspected German terrorist allegedly captured on his way to Europe in late summer and now being held at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

US law enforcement officials say they have been told the terrorists were planning a series of "Mumbai-style" commando raids on what were termed "economic or soft" targets in the countries. Pakistani militants killed 173 people with guns and grenades during the 2008 attacks in Mumbai, India.

The Obama White House has consistently shown a weak hand to those in the islamofascist arena.  From stating a willingness to speak with Iran without preconditions, to promising a Gitmo shutdown (an unkept promise, to date); from the arguably premature pullout of combat troops from Iraq to stubbornly sticking to a similar pullout in Afghanistan. And a recent revelation that Obama believes the US could absorb another 9/11

This is a projection of weakness.  It’s a clear demostration that this administration has no stomach for the fight.  Our allies don’t honestly believe they can trust us and our enemies don’t believe we’ll fight back.

Such a stance invites attacks like the ones described above.

If you’re going to a big football game this weekend, or if you’re going shopping or planning to visit a tourist destination or theme park, keep your eyes open and your finger on the safety switch.

BREAKING: Pyro Pastor Terry Jones issues 2-Hour Deadline to Ground Zero Mosque Imam (updated) Deadline passes; now what?

Video of presser at the link.

Whether he’s an out-and-out nutcase or a calculating publicity whore, you have to give him credit for the Chutzpah.

The pastor at the centre of the Koran-burning row has given a New York Imam two hours to contact him about plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero.

Pastor Terry Jones and his colleague Pastor K A Paul read out two telephone numbers live on television and urged the Imam to contact them as soon as possible.

They did not say what would happen if he failed to get in touch by the time the deadline expires just after 8.30 tonight.

Sky News' US correspondent Robert Nisbet, who was at the news conference, said: "This is absolutely extraordinary.

"It appears the pastor has reconsidered his earlier deal over the New York mosque."

He added: "Worryingly, none of the US cable networks showed the press conference - so Imam Rauf may not have seen it!"

Sky News was apparently the only major news outlet with a crew at the presser, but local outlets were present and probably uplinked it to their networks.  And I’m sure that even if Fox News and the also-rans weren’t there, Imam Rauf got word.

I guess we’ll see what happens at 4:00 EDT.

Update: Meanwhile, Reuters is saying that the Imam has not agreed to meet with Pastor Jones, and ABCNews says “oh, hell no” Jones will not be flying to New York as a guest of the network.  This just keeps getting weirder and weirder.

Update II: The Wall Street Journal site has a more in depth article on the deadline, which passed approximately 10 minutes ago, and adds this little twist:

At a press conference outside his church earlier Friday, Mr. Jones said he would travel to New York with Imam Muhammad Musri, the president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida. Mr. Jones said he planned to meet on Saturday with Mr. Rauf. Mr. Jones said he didn't have a scheduled meeting with Mr. Rauf and wasn't sure the imam even knew he was coming.

Rob Schenck, of the National Clergy Council in Washington, D.C., said on Friday he was helping arrange the pastor's desired meeting with the iman. He said he hasn't been in touch with the imam directly, but has been communication through high-level Islamic intermediaries.

After Mr. Jones issued his deadline to the imam, Mr. Schenck said: "This creates a new problem and complicates our role in it." He added: "Muslim culture is not given to deadlines and ultimatums." Mr. Schenck still plans to go to New York himself to meet with the imam.

Chalk it up to cultural ignorance, or chalk it up to calculation.

Update III:  The deadline has passed.  We wonder what happens now and wait with bated breath…

Update IV: And here we go.

The pastor at the centre of the Koran-burning row says the imam behind plans to build an Islamic centre near Ground Zero has ignored his deadline to get in touch.

Pastor Terry Jones and his colleague Pastor K A Paul had given the imam two hours to call them on one of two telephone numbers read out live on television.

They deadline passed just after 8.15 pm without "any word from the imam or his team."

Dr Hall said he was disappointed at the iman's silence but still hoped to fly to New York to meet him.

He revealed Pastor Jones had agreed not to burn copies of the Koran on Saturday as planned in the hope of finding a peaceful solution to their grievances about the location of the Islamic Centre.

There is still no word yet whether the Quran BBQ is on again, off again, or what.

Two men arrested on flight from Chicago to Amsterdam, one fingered in Birmingham

abc_terror_suspects_100830_mn Two men were arrested from a flight from Chicago to Amsterdam, and apparently, they were up to no good.

They had stuff that you and I would look at and say, “that’s either a bomb, or it’s stuff that’s gonna be a bomb if we don’t stop’em.”

But TSA in Birmingham… didn’t stop’em:

U.S. officials said the two appeared to be travelling with what were termed "mock bombs" in their luggage. "This was almost certainly a dry run, a test," said one senior law enforcement official.

A spokesman for the Dutch public prosecutor, Ernst Koelman, confirmed the two men were arrested this morning and said "the investigation is ongoing." He said the arrests were made "at the request of American authorities."

Airport security screeners in Birmingham, Alabama first stopped al Soofi and referred him to additional screening because of what officials said was his "bulky clothing." In addition, officials said, al Soofi was found to be carrying $7,000 in cash and a check of his luggage found a cell phone taped to a Pepto-Bismol bottle, three cell phones taped together, several watches taped together, a box cutter and three large knives. Officials said there was no indication of explosives and he and his luggage were cleared for the flight from Birmingham to Chicago O'Hare.

It boggles the mind why someone carrying such suspicious luggage was cleared for anything except a trip to the Jefferson County lockup.

Officials believe this was a “dry run,” designed to test TSA security to see if they could board a US airliner with highly suspicious materials.  Sadly, the Birmingham airport security personnel kicked the can up the road to Chicago.  And Chicago then kicked the can up the road to…  Amsterdam?

This is why if I can get to my destination with a one-day drive, I’m on the road.  Houston.  Atlanta.  Jacksonville.  Even Charlotte or Savannah.
