Former NFL general manager Phil Savage will be named executive director of the Senior Bowl, the Press-Register has learned.
Senior Bowl officials have called a press conference for Wednesday, when the official announcement is expected.

Savage, who currently serves as a player personnel director for the Philadelphia Eagles and is the color analyst for Alabama football on the Crimson Tide Sports Network, will replace Steve Hale, who stepped down shortly after the 2012 game, which is played annually at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

The Senior Bowl continues to serve as the premier showcase for NFL draft prospects who have exhausted their college eligibility. The 2012 Senior Bowl roster had a total of 82 players selected in last weekend's NFL Draft.

Savage is a native Mobilian and a 1983 graduate of Murphy High School, your beloved lead blogger's alma mater.
