The college football playoff already has a name

The four team college football playoff already has a name and presumably, a new acronym. The likely name for the system to be in place for the 2014 post-season was revealed in a San Antonio Express-News interview with new Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby:

What are your thoughts on the new college football tournament?
I think the seeded four-team playoff will be absolutely terrific. We're going to capture back New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. College football will be preeminent on those two days with six great football games. I'm very excited about what has happened with the BCS, which will be probably known as the national championship series going forward.

I suppose it could be a lot worse. But I think they could come up with something a little more... distincttive.

NCS is too close to BCS.

They need not get too creative--that gets you division names like Legends and Leaders.

How about something simple and new, like the College Football Championship?

What would you call it?

Here's a thought: would the NCAA at some point den to sanction this and allow them to declare someone the "NCAA National Champion" like in every other sport? Related to that, is there a point at which we leave behind this "FBS" nonsense and go back to Div 1 & Div 2, etc? Then you just call it the "Division 1 National Championship."

"deign to sanction.". Stupid auto-correct.

I doubt the NCAA would do that, since they don't run the playoff like they do in FCS and basketball.

The college presidents want no part of an NCAA run model, since the NCAA would get the money and negotiate all the media rights.
