Arizona shooting: Two tragedies befall a nation

A host of family and community commitments kept me away from the laptop yesterday, so I was shocked and saddened by the news of the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords and the deaths of six others yesterday in a Tuscon, Arizona grocery store parking lot. One of the deaths was a third grader. I have a little girl who’s the same age so the news literally broke my heart.

But I was equally shocked and horrified by the second tragedy, and that is the left’s shameless and immediate attempt to link the shooter to political extremism and in particular, right wing extremism. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that the shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, was politically motivated. Loughner has been described as mentally unstable, with a number of clearly deranged rantings posted on his YouTube account and elsewhere. But there’s no there, there.

I shouldn’t have been so shocked. This is the left. It’s what they are. It’s what they do.  Truth be damned, there’s a narrative to be followed here and exploiting tragedy for political gain gets a lot more traction if the exploitation begins before the bodies cool and the blood congeals.

In their twisted world, this is a Godsend.  Some aren’t as explicit as Mr. Penn is in the video below.

It must have been Sarah Palin’s “target map” that caused all this, right.  Wait… What?
