Beaten, unbowed: Nancy Pelosi says Dems lost because they didn’t do enough

The capacity of the Democrat leadership to persist in their state of utter denial either represents psychosis, or an incredible ability to look straight at the American people and lie through their teeth.  Never was that made more apparent than Nancy Pelosi’s interview with Diane Sawyer yesterday afternoon.

Does she really believe that Tuesday’s historic election sweep was not a strong, clear message for Washington to stop and change course?  Or is she just psychotic?

“Let’s understand the message,” Pelosi told ABC’s Diane Sawyer. “The message was not, ‘I reject the course that you are on.’ The message is it didn’t go fast enough to produce jobs.”

“I believe that Barack Obama will serve eight years as President of the United States,” Pelosi said, citing the “investments that he’s made.”

“Some of them are longer term, because he thinks in a statesman-like way, and that’s why they didn’t get the full impact now.”

But again, no regrets about the health care for all Americans, consumer protections of an historic nature, Wall Street reform, the list goes on,” Pelosi said.

“As to the agenda that we’ve put forth, progress wasn’t fast enough. And that’s really what the challenge is,” she said.

“No regrets. Because we believe we did the right thing,” Pelosi said. “I feel very at peace with how things have proceeded.”

She also blamed money from outside conservative groups for tipping the scales toward a GOP House takeover.

Shorter Democrat party line: “It’s never our fault when we lose elections.  We were doing everything right. It’s just that those mean old Republicans didn’t let us do enough, they distorted our message and brought in all those evil, nasty corporations and foreign money to pay for negative advertising.”

Pelosi’s comments were little different from the President’s, or of Harry Reid. “Um, no. The peasants didn’t really reject our policies or our agenda. They dislike that it wasn’t enough. No, we’re not gonna change a thing.”

Don’t let the arrogance of these statements escape you. Elitists like Obama, Reid and Pelosi are convinced—perhaps psychotically—that you don’t know what’s good for you and that it’s their duty to shove what’s good for you right down your throat.  Yesterday really wasn’t a civil revolt.  To Pelosi and her ilk, this was just a petulant child escaping the clutches of abusive parents and running for it.  To them, as soon as they can get their claws back on the little peasants, they’ll go right back to serving up dishes of tyranny in lethal quantities.  And smile the whole time.

For the incoming majority in the House of Representatives, and for the incoming majorities in most of the statehouses in the country, this is no time for compromise with these people. In fact, there is no room for compromise with these people, because there is no common ground between liberty and tyranny.

Sharron Angle’s Campaign accusing Harry Reid of vote fraud

Yesterday, it was the story about voters finding Harry Reid’s name already being selected on the touch screen machines. Maybe he was just the default choice, huh?

Now, it’s stories like offering free food, gift cards and other such goodies, if people would just be so kind as to turn out and mash the button.  After all, if Reid’s name is already picked on the ballot, even a brain-dead Zombie can vote for Dingy Harry.

Two days ago, the Democratic Secretary of State announced that voters can be provided "free food" at "voter turnout events." Harry Reid has been offering free food and, according to other reports, some Democratic allies such as teachers' unions are offering gift cards in return for a vote for Reid.

What Harry Reid is doing is clearly illegal. Nevada law (NRS 293.700) provides that, “A person who bribes, offers to bribe, or use and other corrupt means, directly or indirectly, to influence any elector in giving his or her vote or to deter the elector from giving it is guilty of a category D felony and shall be punished as provided in NRS 193.130.”

We've seen evidence of this sort of voter 'enticement' by groups such as ACORN - where, in 2008, two ACORN workers in Milwaukee were accused of offering pre-paid gasoline cards or restaurant gift cards to people in exchange for registration.

John Fund wrote in his book Stealing Elections: How Voter Fraud Threatens Our Democracy, cited reports from the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader (South Dakota) and the election in 2004, where certain residents were quoted saying that "people on the streets were saying you go vote, they would give you gas money, $10, maybe a pack of cigarettes..."

Now, this week in Las Vegas, at our election hotline, we received reports that some teachers' union representatives were offering Starbucks cards to people to get them to vote for Harry Reid. It is even more disturbing and may be possible that they are using their influence and authority as educators to entice students on behalf of Reid.

If these kinds of activities are going on—and knowing Democrats like we all do they most certainly are—then someone needs to go to jail.  The Nevada Secretary of State (a Democrat, natch) fired back, calling the allegations “conjecture” and “speculation.”

Sickening.

Fortunately, it appears that Angle is pulling away from Reid.  She’s a 3-to-1 favorite to win according to this forecast and polls are showing the typical, late breaking shift towards the challenger/leader.

If this race isn’t close, then Reid can’t steal it.

Sharron Angle and columnist say Harry Reid pressured paper to change headline

In a fundraising email to supporters, Nevada GOP Sharron Angle claims that In the hours after the only face-to-face debate with Nevada’s Harry Reid, the Las Vegas Sun apparently changed the headline on a column that said she’d beaten him.

“Right after Reid’s debate defeat he went to visit the liberal Las Vegas Sun newspaper. they’ve previously endorsed him and have been largely serving as the mouthpiece of the Reid campaign for well over a year. The night of the debate they had an article headlined ‘Jon Ralston notes how Reid lost the debate to Angle.’ After the meeting with Reid, however, the Sun changed it’s headline to ‘Thoughts on the Reid-Angle debate’ ” says the email.

The story is apparently confirmed by a rival newspaper.

If only for the entertainment value, you gotta find amusement with the Las Vegas Sun and Jon Ralston's manipulation of the news to protect and advance the sputtering Sen. Harry Reid campaign.

Case in point: by most accounts Sen. Reid lost his debate with Sharron Angle on Thursday. In fact, on Friday Ralston wrote in the Sun: "Let’s get the easy part out of the way first: Sharron Angle won The Big Debate."

That lead appeared under this headline: "Jon Ralston notes how Reid lost the debate to Angle."

Well, that apparently didn't sit too well with the Reid campaign. So, the Sun interviewed Reid for a Saturday story that might as well been a Reid campaign press release for all the unchallenged assertions made by Reid. For example, Reid said that no journalist or pundit he was aware of thought Angle won the debate. That, by any measure, is not a credible statement and should have been challenged by the reporter given the Sun headline and column above.

But here's the kicker that sends the Sun's coverage of Reid to journalism ethics hell.

The Sun changed the headline after publication.

In the newspaper and online, the headline first proclaimed "Reid lost the debate to Angle". It was subsequently revised to "Thoughts on the Reid-Angle debate".

Well, isn’t that interesting.

It looks like we have yet another fine, fine example of journalistic ethics by major daily newspapers.  Is there any wonder why people are increasingly turning to the Internet and outlets like Fox News for political coverage?  There was a time when the press could be relied upon to not take sides and just provide the facts.  Those days are apparently long gone at places like the New York Times, the Washington Post and USA Today.  And not surprisingly, the companies owning those once venerable publications are sucking wind like an open chest wound.  They’re obviously gone at the Las Vegas Sun, too.

What fine company the Sun finds itself in.

Rasmussen Poll portends electoral disaster for Senate Democrats

It's only July, and the traditional saw among poli-junkies is that the public really doesn't think about upcoming elections until after Labor Day.  But this isn't shaping up to be a run-of-the-mill mid-term election, and Rasmussen Reports' poll on the balance of power in the Senate holds some chilling news for Senate Democrats:

At the moment, outside of the Toss-Up states, no Republican-held seats appear headed for the Democratic column.

Six of the 10 Toss-up states are currently Democratic seats, while four are held by the GOP.

Among the six Democratic seats in the Toss-Up category, three are open seat races (Colorado, Illinois and Pennsylvania), and the Republicans have a slight edge in the most recent polling for each of those seats. As for Democratic incumbents in the Toss-Up category, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada finds himself trailing in the latest polling; Patty Murray of Washington is tied, and Russ Feingold of Wisconsin holds a very slight edge over a little-known opponent. Richard Burr of North Carolina is the only Republican incumbent in the Toss-Up category. He has led the race for most of the year but now finds himself tied with the winner of a Democratic primary runoff. Other Republican seats in play at the moment are in Florida, Missouri and Ohio. In Florida, Republican Marco Rubio is tied with former Republican Charlie Crist. The GOP candidates have slight leads in Missouri and Ohio.

When election season finally does roll around, and those more-distracted voters start paying more attention, Crist's support in the polls is going to break for either Rubio or Meek. He may hold the support of a few independents through the election, but Democrats currently supporting him aren't likely to go into the voting booth and ignore Meek.

What was once unconscionable for Democrats is now shaping up as a real possibility--a slim GOP majority in the Senate along with a return to early 2000's margins in the House. It remains to be seen whether the Republicans can live up to their legendary capability to blow an election, but if the party can nationalize local races, make sitting Democrats account for their support of the Obama regime's agenda, another Glorious Revolution of 1994 could be in the offing.
