With several of Alabama's 2013 commits earning high praise over the weekend at Nike's The Opening, the Crimson Tide program received plenty of exposure to some of the top recruits in the country at the Portland, Oregon, event. Three of the event's top defensive prospects told 247Sports that the Tide is a strong contender for their services.

Miami linebacker Matthew Thomas, rated the nation's No. 3 outside linebacker and a five-star prospect according to 247Sports, told Charles Power of BamaOnline that Alabama is currently his leader, thanks in large to Nick Saban's history of sending linebackers to the NFL.

"Alabama is a national program and they develop linebackers and get you ready for the next level," Thomas said. "They're talking to me about Jack linebacker."

Of course, this doesn't mean that they're all going to sign with the Tide. But when has Alabama's recruiting been this strong? And a companion question: Who besides LSU is recruiting at this level?
