Reports: Three dead, two wounded in Auburn shooting (UPDATED)

Per Cole Cubelic, three have been killed and two have been wounded in a late Saturday night shooting. The incident occurred at an apartment complex near Auburn University. Numerous other social media accounts identify some of the casualties as current and/or former Auburn football players.

image An Associated Press report indicates that a confrontation occurred near the entrance to the University Heights complex, and that a fight broke out as a group began arguing over a woman.

News of the altercation was first reported by the Auburn Plainsman.

Auburn-Opelika police are expected to hold a news conference at 11:00 am CDT.

UPDATE: Sources: One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were transported to East Alabama Medical Center and later died of their injuries. Another victim in critical condition was transported to Birmingham. A fifth victim was treated and released from EAMC.

Auburn University is expected to issue a statement later today.

UPDATE II: Charles Goldberg of al.com confirms that Ed Christian and LaDarius Phillips were killed in the incident. Both are former players. Eric Mack was injured but did not sustain life threatening injuries.
