Bama cleans up in its backyard with six of state’s Elite 18

image Going into National Signing Day, Alabama held verbal commitments from seven of the Mobile Press-Register’s Elite 18—the top 18 college football prospects in the state as rated by the publication’s staff. When all the faxes were in yesterday, Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide cleaned up and dominated the Heart of Dixie.

The Tide’s signees were No. 2 T.J. Yeldon, No. 4 Reggie Ragland, No. 5 Ryan Anderson, No. 6 Tyler Hayes, No. 10 Alphonse Taylor and No. 16 Darren Lake. The seventh of Alabama’s verbal commitments—No. 12 Darius Philon—signed with Arkansas after a bit of drama at his high school’s signing ceremony.

Check out the complete list here.

Alabama landed four of the top six. Florida State took the other two, including No. 1 overall Jameis Winston (who said he would sign later in the week) and No. 3 Chris Casher. The Seminoles also signed No. 18 Justin Shanks.

Auburn picked up four of the state’s top recruits: No. 8 Cassanova McKinzy, No. 9 Darion Hutcherson, No. 11 Javiere Mitchell and No. 13 Tyler Nero.

LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Arkansas each signed one.

Last year, every one of the Top 10 signed with either Alabama or Auburn.
