Alabama atop AP poll for first time since 1978. UPDATED with full rankings

Not since legendary Alabama football coach Paul W. “Bear” Bryant prowled the sidelines in his trademark houndstooth hat has the University of Alabama Crimson Tide begun the Associated Press’ preseason college football poll ranked #1.  In fact, AP didn’t even rank 25 teams back then.  It was only 20.

The 2010 preseason AP poll, released today, has Alabama picking up where it left off:
